Red Hat and AMD seem to have found the philosopher's stone of virtualization showing in this video how a virtual machine in operation can be migrated between different CPU architectures. Only a few months ago, ironically, Intel and VMWare had argued that something like this was impossible.

In the demonstration were able to migrate a virtual machine from a server Xeon E5420 Quad Core Intel-based server to another processor "Barcelona" from AMD, and then the new Opteron Quad Core "Shanghai". All this without interrupting the operation of the virtual machine (!).
