Free Linux Software KDE 4.1 released
And only 6 months after its previous version 4.0 already announced the highly anticipated final version of KDE 4.1, which includes for the first time the new Personal Information Management (PIM) with their applications KMail, KOrganizer, Akregator, knode and Kontact. KDE 4.1 also presents a fresh shell Plasma now being considered good enough to replace that of KDE3 for most ordinary users.

While KDE 4.1 focuses on the first version to be usable for those who want to use KDE4 soon, some features to which they're used in KDE 3.5 are not implemented yet.
Dirk Muller, one of those responsible for KDE provides some figures: "There have been 20803 commits from KDE 4.0 to KDE 4.1, as well as contributions from translation 15432. Almost 35000 commits have been working in branches, where some of them merged into KDE 4.1, so that these do not even have been counted. "
Packages binary KDE 4.1 are now available for Debian, Fedora, Kubuntu, Mandriva and Opensuse. Others will inevitably follow very soon.
