Inkscape 0.47pre0 is a free program for the processing of vector graphics with multiple functions. Apparently until recently the program developed exclusively for Unix, and now for Windows. More about her can be found here.
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) is the standard vector file format recommended by the W3C for the Web. Unlike SWF (flash), the SVG format has been designed especially for web environments. Inkscape, a division of Sodipodi project, focuses on the editing of vector graphics SVG.
Inkscape 0.47pre0 offers similar programs such as Illustrator, Freehand or CorelDraw, except that here we are in the field of free software. Provides support for basic shapes, paths, text, markers, alpha blending, transformations, gradients, node editing, grouping of elements, SVG to PNG export, and much more. Its purpose is to give the community an open source SVG drawing tool that meets the standards XML, SVG, and CSS2.
Additionally, it provides support for Creative Commons metadata, layers, and can import several formats like EPS, PostScript, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and TIFF and exports PNG as well as multiple vector-based formats. Inkscape's interface provides a familiar environment and balanced palettes and toolbars.
