KDE 3 Vs KDE 4

DistroWatch embarks on the difficult task of assessing the appropriateness of using the latest versions of KDE4 as a replacement for the previous version 3.5, and its findings are as follows:
KDE 4.0 was released in January this year, and although labeled as "stable", for many it was basically a version of Alpha quality (unstable, with serious errors and reduced features). In July came KDE 4.1, and although progress was obvious, it was still a beta version. Continuing in this way, KDE 4.2 (expected for March 2009) should correspond to what would be considered a Release Candidate version, and KDE 4.3 would result in the first really stable version that we all expect. Then, KDE 4.4 is finally as stable and usable as it is now KDE 3.5.
But with the above reasoning, and the cycles of launches of 6 months of the KDE project, we might have to wait until January of 2010 that KDE4 is as good or better than KDE 3.5.
Finally, the board of DistroWatch is to install Debian GNU / Linux 5.0 "Lenny", but that does not include KDE4, it includes the tried and true KDE 3.5.9 will be supported until 2011 by which time KDE4 will be as good as KDE 3.5 what is today.
