Puppy Linux 4.3 Final: Small Linux-distribution

Puppy Linux 4.3 Final is small Linux-distribution, which can be launched directly from CD or install on your hard drive and start from there. Also can be copied and USB Flash and run from it. Distribution is characterized by its small size, functionality and speed. In Puppy Linux will find everything necessary for normal functions in the office - word processing, database, spreadsheet, editor of the web-pages, address book, calendar, desktop publishing system, browser, editors of vector and raster graphics, audio, video, software games.
It's pretty good idea to have a system that works and is relatively easy if you did it happen that your partitions broke down or whatever happened.
It came several months ago wanting to have a backup flash drive with a small distro installed on it and made for these chores, able to work with my internet connection and work with keyboard and decent resolution.
Using Puppy that is at version 4.2 and is preparing for the 5 along with other projects as Woof.
Moving on, Puppy is a simple to install, which in my case I needed UNetbootin only did all the work and recorded it on the device.
In fact, installed systems with UNetbootin remain the Live USB, ie as if they were recorded discs and in principle, are not prepared to record the changes made, is not like installing an OS on a hard drive "normal" although you can but not what makes UNetbootin.
Puppy's grace is that it take advantage of this installation scenario "to the LiveCD and get the best:
» The operating system is saved in our style USB Live
» The pendrive copy the information in RAM (this makes our pendrive not wear reads and writes) to boot.
» The changes are saved in a file called pup_save.2fs in the pendrive, so we can save the entire system configuration, for example, keyboard layout, screen resolution or layout of our ADSL connection, etc..
Other advantages of Puppy
» Use recent kernels (like Arch Linux), which makes the devices large and bulky walk without configurations.
» It is light, if we're going to get into a pendrive should be lighter because our little "hard" has little place in itself. For Puppy 4.2 comes in a size of less than 100 megabytes. Iso.
» Many attendees: A distro for this type has enough assistants to keep a long time in configurations.
» The boot is faster and if you already have a saved configuration (a 2 fs)
Poor Puppy Points
For a distro is not always perfect, here are the bad points of Puppy.
» Little documentation and disorderly
» Ugly desktop environment (but very superficial assessment, we sometimes simply does not taste and sources are not beautiful, I recommend installing Openbox's in their repositories). Its default setting is JWM.
Repositories poor in applications: Puppy is a reality nonetheless seek remedy in a particular way.
What is Woof?
Woof is not the name of a version but has a lot to do with the version 5 that is being prepared.
In Puppy realized that manage pools like everyone else was draining money and time to development itself, (it's a good explanation for the few packages from repositories) and have concluded that what is most interesting:
Why not directly use the other distros repositories and use them to our advantage?
Woof is a builder based distros puppy still in development but will have just that feature, for example, could use the Ubuntu repositories for their programs or the Arch or Slackware, all in the taste of the developer.
So do the users of the Puppy 5 may use these repositories and access a huge range of programs with their own installation systems (eg from version 3 Puppy already offered compatibility with Debian packages)
You see the atmosphere of Puppy Linux 4.3 Final is very motivated and interesting, I suggest you follow those interested that follows, the Puppy Blog.
