Samba 3.2.5 Stable and Samba 3.0.33 Stable: Share files between Windows and Linux
Samba is a free implementation of the protocol of shared files on Microsoft Windows (formerly known as SMB, recently renamed CIFS)-type systems for UNIX. In this way, it is possible that computers with Linux, Mac OS X or Unix in general are seen as acting as clients or servers in Windows networks. Samba also allows users to validate the primary domain controller (PDC), as a member of domain and even as a domain Active Directory for Windows-based networks, apart from being able to serve print queues, shared directories and authenticate with your own users.
Among the Unix-like system in which you can run Samba, the distributions are GNU / Linux, Solaris and the various BSD variants among which we can find the Mac OS X Server from Apple.
There are four basic things that one can do with Samba:
Sharing a unit of Linux with Windows machines
Sharing a unit of Windows machines with Linux
Sharing a printer with Windows machines to Linux
To share a printer from Windows machines with Linux
In addition to other more advanced settings such as PDC
