Ubuntu 9.10 RC
Lacking a week for the launch of its final version was announced with this message in your mailing list the availability of the first (and only) Release Candidate (RC) of Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala". Some of its most important new features include:
- Current users of the Ubuntu 9.04 upgrade can start right now by following these instructions. Users of previous beta version 9,10 must do so manually.
- MySQL 5.1 as the default version of MySQL. Version 5.0 is still available in your repository universe
- Support Sparc abandoned. Users are advised to keep in Ubuntu 9.04 and help resolve a specific error for the next Ubuntu LTS 10.04.
It is also important announcement Canonical's blog on developments in its service ShipIt, who sends free Ubuntu CDs officers all over the world. Although they will continue distributing these CDs to LoCos and members of the Ubuntu project, now need to limit shipments to those people feel they have alternative ways to get the latest version of Ubuntu. These include those who:
- May become members of Ubuntu, contributing to the project and be eligible to receive more CDs.
- Can be upgraded without requiring a CD.
- Can download the CD image.
- Can buy the official CD.
Along with this announcement are also available for Kubuntu 9.10 RC, RC Xubuntu 9.10, Ubuntu Studio 9.10 RC and Mythbuntu 9.10 RC.
