Linux ready for IPv6
Linux Foundation, nonprofit organization devoted to activities to facilitate the rapid development of GNU / Linux, announced the certification of full compliance with the DOD IPv6.
In 2007, the Office of the Department of Defense (DISA) has taken the creation of a project of giving opportunities for communication between devices using IPv6. Work on the implementation of the stack in the kernel already lasted for several years, but still did not meet the requirements of DISA, inter alia, in handling ICMP protocols, IPsec, DHCP and MIB. In response to such a state of affairs, the Foundation has set up a group dedicated to the task of which is composed mainly of representatives of partner companies.
Its task was to exert pressure on artists kernel in order to adapt it to the requirements of the Office. As a result of their work, they are finally applied for a certificate, so that all distributions equipped with the latest version of the kernel should meet the requirements. In summer, the same certificate has been granted for Enterpise SUSE Linux (SLES) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2. In its policy holders can also find Windows Vista and Solaris 10
