The development team Python, declared earlier this year as the programming language of 2007, announced with this message the availability of the final version of Python 2.6. This new version includes, among many other new features, upgrades, fixes and new releases, but it is backward compatible with earlier versions 2.x and at the same time brings tools to help programmers to migrate to its inevitable Python 3.0, which will be launched later this year and will be incompatible with Python 2.

Despite that the planned incompatibility Python 2 and Python 3 will be supported simultaneously for "foreseeable future".
